Recommendations.... What do I use?
One of the most common questions I get asked by friends and coworkers is product recommendations. I've loved hair, beauty and skincare products for a very long time. I've used items in many price ranges, with the exception of high end luxury. A single mom budget cannot afford those.
To give a little background for those who don't know me.... I have really thick, coarse hair that's been processed a lot. I currently color and bleach it. Over the years my hair has been just about every color. Some of it intentionally, some were oops moments. That being said, I've put these locks through a lot so it takes something really special to keep them looking great.
My most recent question was about dry shampoo. What do I recommend? Truly, none of them. I'm not a fan of it. My hair always feels like straw after using (and I've tried sooooo many brands). If I have to use a dry shampoo my go to is Redken Pillow Proof. This is the closest to meeting my expectations. Let's be honest, I have high expectations. Pillow Proof absorbs oil without leaving my hair stiff. It also doesn't leave behind a powdery residue.
Staying with hair care.... What shampoo and conditioner do I use? I'm a big fan of Matrix. I love Total Results Color Obsessed. I also love Biolage Colorlast. But I've been using a cleansing conditioner more lately. I rotate between Unwash Bio-Cleansing Conditioner and Biolage Cleansing Conditioner for Medium Hair. I know, I know. My hair isn't, by definition, "medium". I've used the assorted formulas and didn't see a substantial difference so I get this one. It's usually less expensive. Why cleansing conditioner? Is always something I get asked. Having colored hair, the last thing I want is to strip my hair of its natural oils. All it does is fade your color and dry it out (hense more people going the dry shampoo route). Cleansing conditioner gets my hair clean without it being "squeaky clean". My red dye has definitely lasted longer since I started to kick my shampoo habit. Now I reserve that for deep condition treatment days.
In a previous post I talked about deep conditioner and styling products so I don't think I need to again. Nothing has changed.
Is there something you recommend? Or a product you're a die-hard for? Let me know! I love to try new things.
Feel free to ask for recommendations as well.
Thanks for stopping by, I'll see you soon!
